Honorary Uncle

I met Dr. Winsor when I was 8 years old, during the summer of 1970. He and his wife Martha were my Fresh Air Fund "parents". Many of my best childhood memories were spent with the Winsors. I watched their family of three children grow to five, along with the addition of a son-in-law, daughters-in-law, and sixteen grandkids. Dr. Winsor was like an extra uncle to me. He taught me how to hold a pool cue, took me on my first of many camping trips, helped me to anunciate to the point of losing most of my NY accent and we engaged in countless hours of meaningful conversations over a forty-four year span. Dr. Winsor helped instill in me an appreciation for the arts, healthy living and physical fitness. He was do health-conscious, I thought he would live forever. Although I am African American, I loved him like family. His grandchildren are a melting pot of races, and I consider myself to be his honorary black relative :) He taught me a lot about education, and current events. I miss my uncle friend and pray he sleeps in sweet peace. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his dedicated and loving family.
