Obituary for Philip P. Savory

Philip Prescott Savory
Goshen - Philip Prescott Savory, 87, of 140 Ivy Mountain Road in Goshen, died peacefully on March 13, 2017, in the ER at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of Diana Simrell Savory. He was born on October 23, 1929, in Atchison, Kansas. His was the son of John Charles Savory and Florence Guerrier Savory. Philip graduated from Ridley College in Ontario, attended Kansas University and graduated from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in 1951. He was the Editor of the Bennington (VT) Banner; Executive Editor of the Register-Citizen in Torrington for 20 years until 1987. Subsequently, he taught at Washington Montessori School until retiring in 1996. He was interested in history, literature, and politics. After retirement, he volunteered and worked assiduously on campaign finance reform at Common Cause in Hartford. He delighted in the outdoors, animal and bird life, and loved a daily walk. Philip is survived by his wife, Diana; daughters, Jessica Savory of Goshen and Emily Savory of Fairfield; son-in-law, Ryan Pratt, and grandsons, Jackson and Charlie. His former wife, Harriet Savory and their children, Benedicta and Randolph of Ontario also survive him. A private gathering will occur at a later date.
