Lyman J. Baldwin Jr.
Lyman J. Baldwin, Jr., 89, died peacefully and surrounded by family at Avow Hospice in Naples, FL on Sunday, June 19, 2016. He was born on July 30, 1926, in Cornwall, CT, a son of Lyman J. Baldwin, Sr. and Bessie (Siddell) Baldwin.

Lyman was the loving husband of Rosamond Ainger Baldwin of Naples, FL for almost 65 years, marrying on August 25, 1951 in Litchfield, CT. He was the beloved father of Cynthia Freese and husband Mark of Round Pond, ME, Pamela Rothwell and husband David of Goshen, CT, L. Jeffrey Baldwin and Pamela Treiber Baldwin of Avon, CT, and the much loved grandfather of Amanda Rothwell of Ithaca, NY, L. James Baldwin, Nicholas Baldwin and Bruce Baldwin of Avon, CT. Lyman is also survived by his in-laws; Kenneth and Carol Ainger of Coconut Creek, FL, Paul and Janice (Ainger) Roman of Newtown, CT, Kate (Zenowich) Ainger of Bantam, CT, and many nieces and nephews.

Lyman was predeceased by his sisters Emily (Baldwin) Keregyarto and her husband John of Torrington, Frances (Baldwin) Zampaglione and her husband James of Goshen, his brother Leslie “Bud” Baldwin and his wife Helen of Torrington, and his brother-in-law Raymond G. Ainger, Jr. of Bantam.

Lyman grew up on dairy farms in Torrington and Goshen, CT. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1944, and served in the Pacific with the U. S. Army during World War II. After the war, he received a B.A. in History from the Teachers College of CT (now CCSU). He moved to Cleveland where he began his insurance career with the Insurance Company of North America, later spending most of his 21 years with INA in the Home Office in Philadelphia. He later joined the Hartford Insurance Group in Hartford, CT, retiring in 1988 as Senior Vice President and Head of Commercial Underwriting. In his retirement, Lyman and Roz moved to Naples, FL but returned to Goshen most summers.

Lyman enjoyed a good glass of Zinfandel, his newspapers, a good book, the camaraderie of old friends and associates, and spending time with his family (both the two and four footed variety). He was a gem.
