Angela Flaminia Mottai Bolus
November 7, 1926 - January 12, 2015

Faith, love, grace.

Angela entered into eternal peace just after daybreak, at home in her sleep. She had recently enjoyed happy days and peaceful nights – there had been no sign that her passing was near. She is forever in the hearts of her beloved husband John, their son John “Bub” Bolus and daughter Julie Bolus, and also of her children’s dearest friends, Lolly Schroeder and Dave Stewart and his sons Gray and Harry Stewart. She cherished her beautiful family – dearest sisters Adeline Stoughton and Mary Richard, adored nieces, nephews and cousins, and beloved parents Cristina and Louis. Her greatest joy was the happiness of those she loved.

Angela grew up on her family’s farm on the Torrington - Winchester town line. She joined the Winchester Grange in her early teens and was a devoted member all her life: she served as lecturer, traveled the state installing officers, and helped at Grange fairs. At Winchester Center Congregational Church she taught Sunday school, sang in choir, and waitressed with her sister at the Blueberry Bazaar. She worked as a secretary and then as executive secretary at the Union Hardware Company for twenty years. After she married and moved to Litchfield in 1963, she and her husband created and co-owned Palace Aids, which they operated until 1985. Later she worked at the original Jackie’s. She was a member of Saint Anthony’s Church, the Daughters of Isabella, the Litchfield Women’s Club and the Women’s Forum. She was a Cub Scout leader, a faithful volunteer at the Litchfield Hills Road Race, and a guide for the Open House Day Tours of Litchfield.

Angela traveled throughout the country with her husband and gallivanted around the world with Father Tucker and friends – her favorite trips included Italy, the Holy Land, and Lourdes. She liked to snowmobile, cross-country ski and go tandem biking with her husband. She loved picking blueberries, tending her garden, and cooking for her family. Her specialties were Italian food and the delicious Lebanese dishes she learned to make. She was always learning and loved to share her discoveries. Her creative spirit touched everyone and everything around her.

Angela’s circle of friends grew throughout her life, and this circle was a great blessing to her family as well. Her spirits were always lifted by family and friends who visited her at home in later years, and she especially loved her neighbors on East Chestnut Hill Road. She was deeply moved and strengthened by the caring thoughts of all those around her and of the many people who kept her in their hearts and prayers. She lived her whole life surrounded by love and radiating love.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Church in Litchfield on Friday February 6 at 11 a.m.
