Obituary for Dewey L. Young Jr.

Dewey L. Young Jr.
Warren - Dewey L. Young, Jr. (Bud) died on Saturday, June 16, 2018 surrounded by his beloved family. Dewey was born March 17, 1929 in Warren, CT. He was one of seven children of Dewey L. Young, Sr. and Edna Curtiss Young.

Dewey graduated from New Milford High School and went on to serve in the Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. Later he was employed as a lineman for 29 years by Connecticut Light and Power Company of New Milford, CT and then retired happily to his home on Curtiss Road (which carries the name of his mother’s family) in the town he never again had much cause or desire to leave. He spent many happy years surrounded by the family he loved, in his home on the road where he was born – truly blessed in ways beyond measure.

Bud was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Dewey married Dawn Gormley in May of 1958 – they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in May of this year. He is survived by Dawn, the love of his life and also their four children; Mark, Craig, Gloria and Bruce. (Mark and Linda Young, of Everett, WA, Craig Young and Jill Reidhaar of Warren, CT, Gloria and Mark Swiger of Winter Park, FL and Bruce Young also of Warren.) Six grandchildren were touched by his constant and unwavering love. Lindsay Sullivan and husband Stephen, Taylor Young and wife Emily, Aaron, Christopher, Ava and Luke, also great grandchildren Mia Young and Baby to be Sullivan.

He is survived by his sisters, Pat Colby of Warren, and Diane Kuck and Donna Ramsey of New Milford. He is also survived by his three daughters in law, Lori Young, Barbara Baird and Gina Young. He was predeceased by his sisters; Eleanor, Natalie and Joan.

Dewey lived on Curtiss Road in Warren his entire life. He lived to be 89 years of age. Bud loved his wife and family, above everything. Referring to his 2 acre property as “The Farm” or “The Lower Forty” he enjoyed tooling around in his orange buggy, surveying his estate! He enjoyed “managing” The New York Yankees and drinking coffee with his cousin and best friend Les Ernhout each Sunday morning. If you asked him “What would you like for supper pop?, he would always reply Hot Dogs!

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dewey’s favorite charity, St. Vincent DePaul Mission, P.O. Box 1612, Waterbury, Connecticut 06721-1612 or www.svdpmission.org to help feed the poor and homeless.
