Harwinton – Henry Jules Delay Jr., 90, passed away on February 6, 2017 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. He was the husband of Elinor (Hestad) Delay. Henry was born on April 10, 1926 in Torrington to the late Henry Jules Sr. and Gladys (Williams) Delay.
Henry was a dairy and fruit farmer until he retired in 1992. In 2000, Fairview Farm Golf Course was opened on Henry’s farmland. He was very active in farm and town organizations. He was a charter member of the Harwinton Volunteer Fire Department and served as treasurer of the Harwinton Fair Association for several years. He and his wife enjoyed 21 winters in Florida after their retirement.
In addition to his wife of more than 66 years, Elinor, Henry is survived by his son, Henry “Jay” Delay III; his daughter, Cynthia Fredsall and her husband John, all of Harwinton; five grandchildren, Henry “Jason” Delay IV and his wife Tracie; Patrick Delay and his wife Kerry, all of Mount Pleasant, SC; Andrea Cawthorne and her husband Richard of Winchester, MA; Kirsten Piechota and her husband Matthew of Burlington, and Angela Bronn and her husband Eric of Harwinton; 10 great grandchildren, Ella, Brady, Ethan, Eli, Adam, Emmerson, Reese, Rowan, Molly and Logan; along with many nieces and nephews. Henry was predeceased by his sister, Cherie Shanley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harwinton Volunteer Fire Department, 158 Burlington Road, Harwinton, CT, 06791.
A private service will be held in the spring.
