Beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother

PORZIO, Almerica “Alma” Concetta Porzio, 93, of Sherbrook Dr.,Goshen, (December 13) peacefully passed into eternal life at her home surrounded by her children. The daughter of Theodore and Amalia Ambrosiano, Mrs Porzio was born on August 4, 1923 in New York City. She attended Evander Childs High School in NY. She graduated in Rapid Advance at the young age of sixteen. A gifted student she was offered a full scholarship at Hunter College. She chose rather to Attend the acclaimed New York School of Design where she graduated with a degree in fashion design. She then joined her father’s coat and suit manufacturing business, Ambrosini Brothers of NY, NY as his "right hand man” also performing the accounting. Her love of sewing continued throughout her life as she often expertly made and altered dresses, suits and other clothing. Later in life she used her sewing skills as a member of the Goshen Quilters. She also became a Mahjong enthusiast. Alma was an active member of St. Thomas of Villanova Church.

A devoted wife, Alma was married to her beloved husband Pascal “Patsy” Porzio (predeceased her 2002) in 1947. A devoted wife and mother Alma was an outstanding cook and homemaker. She enjoyed making special meals for her family and friends. Alma was also well known for her baking and cake making skills making many homemade lovely and delicious cakes for her family on every special occasion. She and her husband Pat began raising their family in Hicksville NY, then later in Saranac Lake, NY in the Adirondacks and finally in Avon and Canton Connecticut. When her children grew she was later employed at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Newington, CT where her husband worked for 30 years. She was the accountant for the canteen service. She was a long time and very active member of St Ann's Guild in Avon for 20 years before retiring to Shelter Harbor Rhode Island with the love of her life, husband Pat. They settled in Goshen, CT later as they loved the woods and natural surroundings which they found similar to their previous home in the Adirondacks.

She is pre-deceased by 6 brothers and sisters (Danny, Clemintina, Ida, Elsie, Antoinette and Nicholas) and is survived by her sisters Connie DeAngelo formerly of New Rochelle, NY, Linda Finelli of Poundridge, NY and Mary Petretti of Wyckoff, NJ. She also survived by her 4 Children, Raymond (Leslie) of LaFayette, NY, Ronald (Nancy) of Anchorage. AK, Robert of Goshen, CT and Lynette Miller (Jonathan) of Goshen, CT. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas of Villanova Church at 11:00 a.m. on December 19. There are no calling hours. Arrangements by the Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Rd., Litchfield

A luncheon will follow for family and friends at the clubhouse at Woodridge Lake. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Saint Thomas of Villanova Church, PO Box 177, Goshen, CT 06756 in memory of Alma Porzio.
