Obituary for Jeanne Lancaster

Jeanne (Barbara) Lancaster passed away at home on March 13, 2018. She was 92 years old. She was born in England on August 17, 1925; daughter of Samuel and Claire Lancaster.

Jeanne was one of the British children evacuated to Canada during World War II and eventually decided to return to England to serve in the National Fire Service. After completing her service, she moved to Vancouver, British Columbia where she began her career as a secretary. She married Richard K. Giaver, and moved to the United States.

Jeanne retired after more than 20 years from her position as Secretary to the President of Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She sang with Sweet Adelines, The Silver Belles and Beaux, Catch & Madrigal Singers, in various church choirs, including Saint Michael’s (Litchfield) church choir, The Waterbury Oratorio Society and the Litchfield County Choral Union (LCCU). She recorded books for the blind with CVSBH (Litchfield) and served as treasurer. Jeanne was a member of the Torrington Women’s Club, where she served as secretary. She also served as a voting Poll Monitor in Torrington for many years.

Jeanne leaves a son, Ian Giaver, his wife, Virginia, and their three daughters, Samantha Giaver (husband, Jorge Sanhueza), Katherine Giaver, and Michelle Kozak (husband, Bill); and a daughter, Karen Lancaster.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 11:00 am at Saint Michael’s Parish, 25 South Street, Litchfield, CT 06759.
