Obituary for Norman Charles Tillson

Norman Charles  Tillson
Norman Charles Tillson of Thomaston, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015.

Born on October 29, 1925, in Morris, N.Y., he was the son of the late Mabel (Pease) Tillson and Harold Tillson and brother of the late Albert and William Tillson.

Norman graduated from Gillbertsville Central School in 1942, and loved to attend their yearly Alumni dinners.

Norman was a United States Army veteran, proudly serving in World War II. He was a retired machinist of the New Departure division of GM in Bristol, Conn.

Norman was an avid hunter, especially loving deer and coon hunting with his son, James. He was an exceptional sportsman, as well as a breeder of many championship hounds known to many as Noctill Kennels. He was the winner of the Watergate Championship Coon Hound Event in Swanzey, N.H. in 1972 and of the National Hunting and Fishing Day in Avon, N.Y. He was also a member of the North American Hunting Club, the National Rifle Association, the American Legion in Thomaston and past member of the High Riders Snowmobile Club of Terryville.

Norman leaves behind a son, James W. Tillson, of Thomaston; a daughter, Janice Mathews and her husband, John, of Morris; a granddaughter, Heather Mathews of Kent; a grandson, Kevin Mathews of Warren and a great granddaughter, Noell Laurore, also of Kent.

A graveside service with military honors will be held in the spring time in Hillside Cemetery, Thomaston. There are no calling hours.
