Judith E.  Olear (Elwell)
Judith Elwell Olear, 86, of Washington Depot, CT, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2013 at New Milford Hospital, after a lengthy illness, with her loving family at her side. Judy was the devoted wife of John Olear for 60 years. Born June 7, 1927 in New Haven, Judy was the daughter of late the Willliam B. Elwell and Lucy Ives (Stevens) Elwell. Judy grew up in Waterbury and graduated from Crosby High School, class of 1945. She began a career in banking at Waterbury Savings Bank, taking time off to raise a family while residing in Cheshire, CT. She returned to banking at Colonial Bank, both in Waterbury and Cheshire, and retired in 1985, from the Commercial Loan Department of Bank of Boston, after a career of 25 years.
Judy was a member of both the Waterbury and Cheshire Junior Women’s Clubs. She had also volunteered at Gaylord Hospital. While residing in Washington she became a member of St John’s Episcopal Church, where she served as Assistant Treasurer and as a member of the Altar Guild. Judy enjoyed serving on many of her high school reunion committees over the years.
In addition to her parents, Judy is predeceased by her sister, Mary E. Lee. Judy, a loving mother, is survived by her daughter Tracey Olear Struble and husband Joe of Meriden, son Mark S. Olear and wife Dep of Geneva, IL, and son William Randall Olear of Cheshire. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren: Stephen Struble of East Hampton, CT; Elizabeth Struble Floyd and husband Jeremy of Bristol, CT; Rebecca Olear, and Rachael Olear, both of Geneva, IL.
Judy’s positive attitude, caring smile, and genuine love will be missed by her family and friends.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 21, at 11:00am at St. John's Episcopal Church, 78 Green Hill Road, Washington, Ct.
