Charles E.  White
Charles E. “Chuck” White, 244 Forest Street, Torrington, Connecticut, passed away on September 3, 2018 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was 91 years of age. Chuck was born on August 25, 1927, the son of John J. and Selma Abrahamson White. He was the husband of Jeanne “Chris” Bitzer White, who passed away on April 14, 1991, after 43 years of marriage. Chuck retired from The Torrington Company in 1992. He was a member of Center Congregational Church, Torrington for sixty-nine years in 2012. Previous to working at the Torrington Company, he worked for his dad, John J. White Plumbing and Heating Co. and ran said business until 1966. In 1967 through 1969, Chuck was Lead Singer of the “Torringtones”, a barber shop quartet, consisting of Bob Doyle, Mickey Seiser and Ray Doolittle.

Chuck’s sister, Ethel Iffland, passed away in September 2012 and her husband, Ralph Iffland, passed away in December 2013. Chuck leaves three son’s and their wives, Kevin White, and daughter, Meghan, of Norwood, Colorado, Ralph and Lynn White of Eustis, Florida, John and Judy White of Portales, New Mexico and a daughter and her husband, Ellen and Joseph Baron of Burlington, Conn. He also leaves five granddaughters, two grandsons and six great grandchildren. The love of his life, Marie Thompson, his significant other for fourteen years, passed away on November 10, 2008.

Chuck served in the U.S. Army in 1946, 1947, 1948, in the Military Police, Los Alamos, New Mexico, The Manhattan Project and received commendations from President Harry Truman, and from Susan Bysiewicz, former Conn. Secretary of State.

Chuck is sad to leave, his love, Marie Thompson’s, three sons, and one daughter, her nine grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren who always treated him as one of their family. Chuck adored his loving, affectionate companionship with Marie from 1995 until her passing in 2008.

Chuck also leaves a dear and wonderful friend, Anne O’Brien, his former Choir Director at Center Congregational Church, and the members of Center Church Choir.

Chuck thanks our Heavenly Father for a wonderful, long life filled with fond memories, a fantastic family, and many, many great friendships.



A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 10 am, on Saturday, September 8, at Hillside Cemetery, Walnut Street, Torrington. There are no calling hours.
